As a beginning Affiliate Marketer I am finding two reason I think most Affiliate Marketers quit before they ever make their first sale. I thought this would be good to share because I know I am not alone and I not only write this for myself but for any beginners out there who are experiencing this same thing. I think we all experience this at the beginning and should recognize these for what they are and understand they will pass as our business picks up traction.
1) NO SUPPORT FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY
I am experiencing this heavily right now. The problem is friends and family have no idea what Affiliate Marketing is. They don't understand how it makes money, how it works, and how much work is involved at the beginning with little or no results. I have tried to explain it to my friends and family and I can see them drifting away from the conversation before I even start.
The problem is Affiliate Marketing goes against the norm of what the majority of people thinks about how to make money. All of us are taught from school that we go "get a job". And that's what our friends and family expect of us also. So when we talk about how we are going to make all this money in Affiliate Marketing they don't believe us. It is beyond their scope of thinking. Making $1,000 a day goes against everything they have been taught. Friends and family can kill our dreams faster than anything.
My advice when first starting out.... Don't tell them. I know its hard because we are excited!! We see our future!! We see a life of wealth and freedom. But we know that it is delayed gratification. We can not give up because no one believes in our dreams, no one close to us supports our dreams. It needs to be the fuel that keeps us going not the water that dowses the flames.
We must understand our friends and family will never support us until they see results. And they will be uninterested and think your wasting your time because at first your working and not getting much if any results. When our friends and family do not support us it naturally makes us down and want to give up.
I say DO not give up!! But..... keep your dreams to yourself (this is what I do now). I do not talk about my business or what I do in it to any of my friends or family. I no longer bring it up. I will wait for that day when they see me spending money or having money. Yet not working near as hard as they are. Then they will be interested and want to know more. It is my driving fuel. I truly can not wait for that day. It's a secret that I will keep until they have no choice but to ask how I did it.
2) BEGINNERS DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF DELAYED GRATIFICATION
This goes back to the mindset our friends and family have. We are all ingrained from childhood that we go to school, and after we graduate we go get a job. We are taught to trade our time for what someone thinks we are worth or really what it would cost to replace us. In other words if your trading your valuable time for $8.00 an hour it means you are easily replaceable. The more someone pays you for your time the harder it is to replace you. But the problem with this scenario is no matter how much you make you are still trading your precious time for money.
Affiliate Marketing is by no means a get rich quick scheme. The goal is to do things that continue to work for us and make us money while we are doing other things. A silent salesman that works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and never gets tired. The work in Affiliate Marketing is like a rocket ship. It takes a lot of fuel and energy at first to get a rocket ship out into space. But once that ship is out into space not much is required to navigate and fly through space.
Affiliate marketing takes much time and energy in the beginning. But the beauty is we are doing things that stick. We are not trading time for dollars any longer. And as time moves forward our past efforts build upon each other and compound. Affiliate Marketing (unlike trading time for dollars) grows exponentially. So it may seem like we are doing all this work with no results.
But it couldn't be further from the truth.
Don't let these two dream killers squash your dreams!!! I'm not.... I will keep going with Affiliate Marketing because I understand that it can and will change my life. We must all change our mindset about how to make money. We have been sold a bill of goods that we have to work hard our whole life and then "maybe" we will have enough to retire when we are about to die. When we're to old to even enjoy life. I say "fuck that"!!!
